Here is the Addiction Blog RoundUp for the week. Happy reading!
Alcohol and Your Heart
Dirk Hanson writes a lot about scientific and medical findings related to addiction over at Addiction Inbox. This week he is writing about alcohol and heart health. It is a very interesting article and hopefully information like this will lead to a change in the mainstream conversation.
Can You Overdose on Marijuana?
Over at addictionblog.org, they are writing about whether or not you can overdose on marijuana. It is not a completely harmless drug and we have had some very public psychotic reactions in Colorado since legalization.
DrugMonkey: Thought of the Day
Sciencetopia has several different blogs. DrugMonkey writes for them regularly and he posted an interesting thought of the day recently. It made me want to ask: “How does your alcohol (or drug) use fit with your expectations or your view of yourself?”
Academic by Day, Thief by Night
At Discovering Alcoholic there is a very interesting post this week. It is a video interview with Marc Lewis who is a neuroscientist and also has first hand experience with addiction. He is discussing his addiction, the brain actions, and the psychological addiction. There is a spot in there where he talks about his recovery being mostly “will”, I would argue that his recovery is more about “willingness” (and I will write more about that at some point).
Active, Sober, and Well
Finally this week, I read a post written by Dr. Herby Bell over at Recovery Health Care. He posted an article that he recently wrote for Active over 50 and it is a great wholistic view of maintaining recovery.
Have a great weekend!
